A major mining plc with a reputation for robust data management and transparent reporting standards wanted to improve their communication to stakeholder audiences - and a new strategy enabled them to meet this need.
Antofagasta plc is a Chile-based mining group with interests in transport. A London-listed FTSE 100 company, it operates four copper mines and has a reputation for disciplined cost control and consistent operational performance. Its assets are supported by an established self-owned infrastructure that includes rail transportation
The company takes a long-term business-centric approach to sustainability, with a sustainability policy in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All four of their copper operations in Chile meet The Copper Mark, the leading assurance framework to promote responsible practices across the copper, molybdenum, nickel and zinc value chains, and ICMM (International Council on Mining and Metals) standards.
The range of sustainability practices and data points needed to share to meet their reporting objectives required deep sector expertise and an agile methodology.
Moving to a modern reporting suite
Antofagasta plc has a robust data collection and management process as well as a wealth of case studies demonstrating the company’s performance.
Historically, however, the content had been presented as a single PDF document. This format ensured the client met the legal reporting requirements, but made specific topics difficult to access for audiences who needed to locate specific information quickly and easily online.
To address this, the Antofagasta team opted to transition to a more modern and modular digital reporting suite for their upcoming annual report cycle.
The sustainability report needed to integrate with the rest of their reporting suite, meet six international frameworks - the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), SASB, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), The Copper Mark, and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) - and be available in English and Spanish.

Managed by industry experts, delivered on time and on budget
We managed the sustainability advisory, content production and review process for Antofagasta plc’s 2025 Sustainability report and databook. From the outset, we applied our Cambianz model of working: a structured approach that takes every project from deep client understanding through rapid prototyping to delivery. We worked closely with teams across the organisation, including operational staff, sustainability leads and the C-suite.
As part of the research phase, we developed a bespoke code capable of analysing more than 1,000 content items, including 25 executive interviews conducted in Spanish and English. This ensured qualitative and quantitative data points were all captured.
